It is now a kill switch that allows a minority of the Senate, representing a minority of voters, to repeatedly block needed-and popular-legislation. The modern filibuster is the result of more than two centuries of work by those who stood-and stand-in the way of equality, progress, and fairness. Why can’t we pass gun control legislation even after a horrific mass shooting? Why couldn’t Congress pass any civil rights legislation for 82 years after Reconstruction? What could prevent us from reversing the anti-democratic, anti-voting legislation coming from states like Georgia?īut isn’t the filibuster a central part of the founder’s vision for our country? Doesn’t the filibuster protect minority rights? And doesn’t the filibuster encourage bipartisan legislating? Perhaps the best known of her books is Justin Morgan had a Horse. Other Henry books I purchased for future reading and for my granddaughter are Stormy, Misty’s Foal and Black Gold. The wild ponies are a sight to behold whether on the page or at the festival. And yet, what an imagination Henry displays in this story. It deserves to be a classic as it is written with feeling and suspense as well as an understanding of children and horses. It is beautifully written but filled with specialized vocabulary. My five-year-old granddaughter will need to wait a year or two to hear and enjoy this story and others. I thought to buy several books for my granddaughter. I found I had misremembered the books. I was reminded of Marguerite Henry’s horse stories by a recent newspaper essay of travel to the islands of Assateague and Chincoteague in the Virginia Outer Banks seeking wild horses and the local holiday known as the Pony Penning celebrated in Henry’s book Misty of Chincoteague. Brief Summary of Book: Siblings Without Rivalry: How to Help Your Children Live Together So You Can Live Too by Adele Faber Still, producer George Haight and Montgomery (who also directs) went forth with their creative gamble, and the results were… intriguing, to say the least. The mishandling of either could lead to financial suicide at the box office. MGM was taking a big risk, given that they were using a hugely popular character, Philip Marlowe, and an actor known primarily for his good looks, Robert Montgomery. Given the relative success of these films, it was only a matter of time before someone attempted to tell an entire story using first-person perspective. Audiences were dropped into Dick Powell’s worn shoes in Murder, My Sweet (1944), while Humphrey Bogart spent the first act of Dark Passage (1947) hiding behind the camera. “Some cases, like this one, kind of creep up on you on their hands and knees and the first thing you know, you’re in it up to your neck.”įilm noir liked to play with first-person perspective in the 1940s. 7/4/2023 0 Comments Gender blender by blake nelsonUrn:lcp:genderblender00nels:lcpdf:bdd2cdeb-1e7a-4946-8040-a8aff74f908d Extramarc University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (PZ) Foldoutcount 0 Identifier genderblender00nels Identifier-ark ark:/13960/t17m1gj8n Isbn 9780385746960Ġ385746962 Lccn 2005014792 Ocr_converted abbyy-to-hocr 1.1.20 Ocr_module_version 0.0.17 Openlibrary OL23274843M Openlibrary_edition Access-restricted-item true Addeddate 13:50:23 Bookplateleaf 0004 Boxid IA129901 Boxid_2 CH114501 Camera Canon EOS 5D Mark II City New York Donor 7/4/2023 0 Comments Batgirl and robin year oneWith Discovery CEO David Zaslav now at the helm, and Kilar and Sarnoff having departed the company in the merger, he’s turning the company back toward a theatrical release structure, with a focus on individual high-budget blockbusters instead of simultaneous streaming releases of less expensive products.Īcross the entertainment industry, other companies have had to make similar adjustments. did not respond to Fortune’s request for comment. “The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC Universe and HBO Max,” the company wrote in a statement first reported by Deadline. So why throw away tens of millions in investment and the return of a legendary actor?Īccording to Warner Bros., now under new leadership since a merger with Discovery was finalized, it cut Batgirl because the release no longer made sense within the company’s broader business strategy. Keaton was the first big-screen Batman in two Tim Burton–directed movies in 19 that ascended to cultural phenomenon status and set the stage for the coming decades’ superhero blockbuster boom. The decision came as a surprise to many, as the movie had already finished production in March of this year and featured an all-star cast including actress Leslie Grace in the lead role, providing significant Latinx representation in a major motion picture.ĭirected by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the film was also meant to feature Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne-a return of the Golden Globe–winning actor to a role he hadn’t played in 30 years. This fact applies universally - even the most successful psychologists, corporate executives, statisticians, and finance professors cannot seem to leverage their knowledge to succeed in the market.ĭoes this mean that it is impossible to become rich in the stock market? Of course not it is very possible. Millions of investors mimic these strategies and still do not become rich. Instead they attempt to mimic the behaviors of successful investors such as Warren Buffett, George Soros, and Carl Icahn in a desperate bid to achieve half their success. Why is this?Īverage investors do not know how to apply psychology and business acumen to investment decisions. With this huge amount of money moving around daily, the average investor never becomes rich in the stock market. Hundreds of billions of dollars change hands in the stock market on a daily basis. 7/3/2023 0 Comments Bring me their hearts 3He looks back only once, his dark eyes widening at how close I am. A copy was kept upstairs in a quiet room, and when an autistic meltdown was coming, we would gently lift Tommy or Henry up and into the sanctuary of a calm space, softly retelling the story of their favourite Caterpillar over and over again until the storm passed. Tommy and his beloved book (supplied)Īs the twins grew older, and an official diagnosis forthcoming, the Caterpillar played an important role in helping them make sense of a world not designed for them. They would trace their fingers over the cut-out holes on the pages, or “read” the story from back to front. They thumbed through the book, pressing their faces up against the illustrations and squinting their eyes, as if to drink in all the colours and shapes in their own unique way.
